Axon’s Athlete Spotlight Of The Month Of September Goes To Celia Moore!
Read more to find out who Celia is and what she is about!
1: Where are you from originally?
I was born in Los Angeles, California. When I was 10 years old, my Father moved our family to Las Cruces, New Mexico.
2. What is your favorite WOD/Movement?
I really like the deadlifts. The quick movement allows me to really show how strong I have gotten since I started Crossfit.
3. What were you doing before CrossFit? How did you hear about CrossFit and/CrossFit Axon?
I did easy walks around the block, very infrequently. I deceived myself into thinking I was working out. (haha). I heard about CrossFit from a young lady that visited our family in December of 2014. She explained how beneficial the workouts were because it strengthened and improved her whole body. She loved it! My immediate response to her was, ‘That is not for me. I won’t be doing that, for sure’.
However, while driving by the local grocery store, I had noticed the previous location on Rocky River. There was a little tug at my heart to go in, but I quickly brushed it off. In 2015, the tug at my heart continued to get stronger.
One Sunday, while at church, my precious Pastor made a statement that shook me to the core, ‘Some people’s rear ends are so big, that you could bounce a ball off of it’. I knew my Heavenly Father, God, was trying to get my attention. I immediately started attending CrossFit Axon the next week.
4. What other sports or activities do you participate in as a family besides CrossFit?
My family likes to roam interesting places, such as museums, historical sites, walk the beach, etc. Not really a sport, but we do like to get out and enjoy the world around us.
5. How many times per week do you CrossFit?
Mostly 3 times, however, when my work schedule is crazy, I try to do make-ups.
6. What is your athletic background?
As a teen, I ran track. Once I graduated from College, I did aerobics, jogging, and running.
7. Give us some insight as to your thoughts after your first workout at CrossFit Axon.
My first workout was an eye-opening experience. I really thought I was fit even at 230 lbs, but after years of not really moving certain body parts, I realized I really needed to be at CrossFit Axon. I was thoroughly was impressed with the knowledge and expertise of the trainer. I knew I was in good hands.
8. What brought your back after your first workout?
I knew I was not alone. Both the trainers and the other CrossFitters were all pushing together to improve. Going to a regular gym is a very lonely feeling.
Not knowing what to do, how to do it, and when to do it, is a bit overwhelming for someone like me that was almost 70 lbs overweight. I knew I could do this if I just disciplined myself to get there.
9. Do you have any special or favorite CrossFit Axon memories/moments?
My favorite is when I was told to jog the 400 meters. I wanted to cry. But really there was no need. Carey Ann said she would walk with me and not to worry.
My second favorite was doing the mountain climbers. I thought who in their right mind, does this. This is totally the most unlady-like movement. However, the movement makes the legs stronger.
My third and most favorite moments is run-jogging the 1 mile in under 15 minutes. When I started I could not even jog the 100 meters, without needing to stop and get my breath. With the help of trainers, I have come a long way.
10. What would you like to tell someone who wants to start CrossFit Axon but may be unsure about getting started?
CrossFit allows one to start where they are. It has been for me a personal journey to take me to a healthier, stronger, lighter me.
11. What is your eating style?
I focus on the paleo eating style, minimizing bread, starches, processed foods, and sugars. I enjoy cooking more because the foods taste better with the new spices that I learned from the paleo challenge help, Carey Ann add provides.
12. What kind of results have you seen since starting at CrossFit Axon?
I have lost 50 lbs. I went from a 22-24 size to 12 size dress. One funny thing is I had suit jackets that I bought years ago, that I thought (as I was gaining weight) had shrunk or were irregular. But the fact was, I just got bigger. But, now I can wear them.
13. What do you do for a living?
I design computer systems to support business processes.
14. What drives you to be an active family?
Minimal or no movement is a recipe for weakness, eventually stiffness and pain. I want to live life without pain or stiffness, easy walking, stepping up, being strong to enjoying life and living, full of joy.
